This session will describe the challenges and issues involved in the initiation of a new residency program in a country open to this type of development. We will draw on the experience gained in starting a new family medicine residency program in both Ecuador and Rwanda, as well as the observed experience in other countries.

This break-out session will describe how global learning experiences affect the practice of healthcare students and professionals after they return home, beyond cultural competence.
