More than 970 million people are affected by one or more mental disorders on our planet. In developing countries, the situation is much worse. 75-90 % of the people with mental health needs are never able to see a mental health provider of any kind due to barriers in the pathway of care. As a young psychiatrist, I was faced with this challenge of a mental health gap(mhGAP) especially working among the poor in a rural hospital in South Asia. This is a story of how the overwhelming need was met by the calling of our God to rethink mental health.
