There are certain dialectical tensions to serving overseas. One such tension is launching a person to "go" but then equipping the same individual to be able to "stay." One way agencies, churches and people can help missionaries "stay" is answering the question of how to meet the unique social, spiritual and academic needs of "third culture kids." These challenges can create stress, ministry tensions as well as triumphs. Also what needs to be discussed is the hidden losses and grief of leaving "normal" behind for the family.
