Protestant missionaries have labored in Thailand for 190 years. Today, fewer than 1% of Thai Buddhists are Christians. Why? Because of their identity: “To be Thai is to be Buddhist.” We will consider the meaning and significance of worldview and the Thai Buddhist worldview—what they believe and what that looks like in practice. Learn the meaning of contextualization and how “wrapping the gospel” in Thai continues to make an impact here. Whether you plan to come to Thailand or to better understand your Thai neighbors, join us for this session.
On leaving this session, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the worldview of Thai Buddhist people.
2. Explain the major obstacles to communicating the gospel to Thai Buddhists.
3. Explain the meaning of contextualization and several ways to apply that in sharing with Thai Buddhists.
You want to live a life of significance that is humbly aligned to God’s purposes. In order to do that, you need to understand God’s call for, or will in, your life. The problem is, it doesn’t seem clear, and everyone you meet has a different perspective on “calling”, which makes you feel confused and stuck. What you need are tools to help you discern God’s call.
