Physical Education – Co-Teacher & Coach
An ideal internship or volunteer experience for any aspiring athletic trainer looking to work abroad would provide hands-on experience in both sports medicine and team management within a new cultural setting. Participants would work alongside local coaches, medical staff, and educators to develop injury prevention programs, rehabilitation plans, and strength conditioning regimens for student-athletes. Additionally, they can assist in teaching sports science or physical education classes, allowing them to engage with students in both English and Spanish. This immersive experience would enhance their bilingual communication skills and provide a unique perspective on integrating athletic training into different educational and athletic systems by managing groups of students and athletes. Participants refine their classroom and team management skills while adapting to the cultural expectations of Colombia’s sports and education sectors. Beyond practical training, this experience can be a stepping stone toward long-term professional opportunities in Colombia and Latin America. The trainer would build a strong professional network and secure an in-country job reference by working directly with local sports organizations, schools, and clinics. Their demonstrated ability to navigate a bilingual environment and manage sports programs effectively would position them as valuable candidates for full-time employment in the region. Whether transitioning into a permanent athletic training role or a broader educational or coaching position.  It will provide experience, cultural competence, and professional connections to establish a successful career abroad.  The participant could facilitate a community-wide athletic tournament and/or skills camps.
